Equatorial College School is a private mixed, day and boarding school. It is located in Kyarutanga cell, Kyeikucu ward, kagongo Division, in Ibanda municipality, about 6miles along Ibanda-kitagwenda-kamwenge Road. The school was started in May 2002 at Nyabuhikye Trading Centre, about 3 km along Ibanda-Mbarara Road. It started with only 11senior five students, in a hired commercial building that contained the office, classroom and accommodation facilities for girls. The school was founded by a group of highly motivated members led by Mr. Kamasaka Robert as their chairman. The others were Mrs Evas kamasaka, Mrs. Jacqueline.k.Barungi, Mr. Bigirwa Moses Mr.Beyunga zozimus, Mr.Nyamwara Edson Mr.katumire Elias, Mr.Mugume Hannington, Mr.Ntungwa Alfred, Mr.Kifeefe Fred (R.I.P), Mr. Busingye Crescent and Mr.Mugume Muganzi.

The starting was not easy as one would expect, However their determination to establish a model, regional school coupled with immense support from parents ,enabled members to carry on with their dream. In the same year the school was transferred to the current location and the following year 2003, all the classes from S1-S6 were established. The pioneer head teacher, Mr.Bumbakare Sebastian did a great job in ensuring that the young institution kept on flourishing, He was later succeeded by another inspiring head teacher Mr. Bigirwa Moses, the current head teacher with good administration and prudent leadership from the Board of Directors coupled with hardworking staff, Equatorial college school has over the years grown into this mighty institution, with magnificent structures an enrolment of Over 1000 students and over 90 employees. The institution is developing steadily and is destined to be acentre of academic excellence.
